Columbus, Georgia - An iBeacon City
Piper Networks' first creation was an app that would allow users to receive messages based on their location. The app used iBeacon technology to send the messages when users were nearby. As the Deployment Manager for Piper, I was responsible for getting as many beacons out in the city as possible so that users would have a worthwhile experience. I managed the logistics and the teams that went to every McDonald's store in Atlanta and Augusta to install the devices and I managed the crew of city workers who installed the devices along the RiverWalk.

Some of the major beacon deployments that I managed included deploying beacons along the Columbus RiverWalk, McDonalds stores in Columbus, Macon, Atlanta, and Augusta, Georgia, Columbus State University, and many other businesses. As a result of the efforts, we were able to gain a lot of new users and attract the attention of the national media including Forbes and Fast Company.

While Piper shifted its focus away from the app in 2017, these stories helped make the company into what it is today. The article in Fast Company grabbed the attention of an executive from the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority who reached out to Piper for help with creating countdown clocks for the subways so that passengers would know when the next train arrives.
